Certaldo is a small village that has preserved all the typical features of the medieval castle built on a hill for strategic reasons. For centuries the seat of the Vicariate of Valdelsa, that was the representative of Florentine authority in these territories, the town is famous thanks to his illustrious son, the poet Giovanni Boccaccio, whose house, now a museum, is still here. And let’s not forget the main product of Certaldo: its onion! So important to be included in the emblem of the city!
San Gimignano preserves all the characteristics of the fortified medieval village. Its unique skyline, outlined by the numerous towers, dates back to the 13th and 14th centuries, when its location on the “French Road” made its fortune. A tour between stone walls, medieval wells, palaces crowned with merlons, a breathtaking view over the Chianti hills, and maybe a taste of its typical wine, Vernaccia.. definitely an experience you can’t miss!
Monteriggioni is another small castle, born as a Sienese fortification against the eternal rival Florence. It is enclosed by round city walls that protect it since the 13th century, and that lend it the peculiar sight of a crown on the “head” of a hill, characterizing also the surrounding landscape. The walk in and outside the town is really fascinating: you can even walk on its walls and admire the landscape below.

Strolling through its streets means discovering the life of the so-called “contrade” (the districts in which the city is divided), that are in fact real families.
